Legislators are pushing a bill to defend public servants

Representative Gerald Watkins of Paducah sponsored the legislation. Under this new law, anyone who assaulted a police officer or fire fighter would have to serve 85 percent of their sentence before being eligible for parole. The bill has received an endorsement from the Kentucky State Fraternal Order of Police, The Kentucky Sheriff’s Association, and the Kentucky professional fire fighters association. The bill is set for house consideration.
