WYMT reports a Lawrence County man is in serious condition after falling from Bad Branch Falls in Letcher County on Saturday, September 3. 26-year-old Justin Lee Maynard had climbed to the top of the falls where he fell. Maynard was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee with leg and head injuries. Rescue officials said the area directly above the falls is off limits to hikers and climbing to the top is extremely dangerous. Officials with Bad Branch Nature Preserve remind visitors to always pay attention to signs, follow trails, and never climb to the top of the falls.
