Special Election for First District Seat

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes received a proclamation September 6 from Gov. Matt Bevin calling for a special election, coinciding with the general election, on Nov. 8 in Kentucky’s First Congressional District after U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield officially resigned the seat. The First Congressional District is made up of 35 counties and encompasses West Kentucky and parts of South Central Kentucky. Grimes said she looks forward to working with the county clerks in the First District to prepare and appreciates that “Gov. Bevin recognizes the heavy financial burden special elections often place on our counties and has scheduled this election on the regular election day, Nov. 8.” Anyone with questions regarding the election should contact Grimes’ office or their county clerk.
