According to WYMT, Pikeville public safety officials are looking into bringing Wireless 911 to the city. Calls made inside city limits on cell phones first go to Kentucky State Police Post Nine before being transferred to Pikeville dispatchers. Public Safety Director Paul Maynard said getting the calls directly would be a great improvement in responding to citizens. A petition is currently underway for cell phone carriers to reroute calls, a process which could take up to six months, before Kentucky 911 Services Board can test the system.
