The London-Laurel County Backpack Club teamed up with their local tourism commission to raise money to feed hungry children this past weekend, WYMT reports. Over 100 cyclists from the tri-state, as well as Tennessee, Indiana, and Florida participated in the 40-mile ride through Daniel Boone National Forest, raising around $5,000 for the backpack club. The club provides 1,200 meals per week to students in the county, at a cost of about $3,000 per week. Dan Smoot, Executive Board Member of the London-Laurel County Backpack Club, said they are constantly trying to find money through donations and fundraisers. The turnout is expected to be double next year, with many of the cyclists saying they should not do t-shirts next year so that they could put the money towards more food.
