According to WSAZ, seven former clients of Eric C. Conn who lost their Social Security benefits after a re-determination hearing were in Pikeville Wednesday for a federal hearing with the Social Security Administration. The hearing focused on whether the SSA re-determination hearings are fair, with attorney Ned Pillersdorf arguing “You have hearings where you can’t challenge the evidence, in my opinion, that’s not a hearing.” Attorneys for the SSA said they are following the law and the process is more than adequate. During the hearing, it was agreed Conn’s clients were not accused of defrauding the government and they are victims. The judge will soon make a ruling on whether the hearings are constitutional.
