The Floyd County Fiscal Court voted 3-1 to adopt the state needle exchange program, reports The Floyd County Times. The one opponent was magistrate Randy Davis. Davis is not completely opposed to the program, but thinks there should have been more time to look into alternatives before approving this one. The magistrate also expressed concern that there was favoritism toward drug users when other communities members with health issues, such as diabetes, would also benefit from being able to get needles and supplies. Floyd County Attorney Keith Bartley said the program is not about giving drug users needles, but to “avoid a possible health crisis.” The Floyd County Health Department is currently working to get the program up and running by the end of the year.
