An early morning fire at a Knott County residence has left two children dead. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call at around 5:37 a.m., September 30, advising of the fire. Post 13 personnel responded to the residence in the Lackey community, along with members of Garrett and Maytown Volunteer Fire Departments. Upon arrival, the structure was completely engulfed in flames.
During the course of extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered what appeared to be human remains inside the residence. Knott County Coroner Jeff Blair responded to the scene and pronounced the victims deceased. No foul play is suspected in this incident. The Knott County Coroner confirmed the identities of the boys as Marcus Caden Alexander Waddles and Jonathan Braxton Gage Waddles. An autopsy was performed for identification purposes. Detective Chris Collins is continuing this investigation.
