Federal Officials Approve Disconnect of kynect

On Tuesday, federal officials approved Governor Bevin’s plan to dismantle kynect. Beginning November 1, users of the state health exchange will have to transition to the federal health exchange at healthcare.gov, with Kentuckians looking for Medicaid using benefind, the state’s new online enrollment system for public benefits. Andrew Slavitt of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department is concerned those with coverage through kynect may be confused by the transition, but said in a letter to Governor Bevin that the changes would be monitored by the federal government. Kynect has been one of the most successful state-run exchange programs in the country, but was called redundant by the current administration. Bevin’s proposal to scale back the Medicaid expansion is still pending.
