Waterfowl Season Promising, But Need More Cold Weather

With waterfowl season fast approaching, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is optimistic, but need colder weather. Wes Little, migratory bird biologist with the department, said the summer rains helped the growing season, creating an available food supply for ducks and geese. As temperatures get colder, northern birds will be pushed into the area, potentially by opening day of the season. Little said scouting will be important to successful hunting this season. The first segment of duck season opens November 24 and closes November 27, with the second segment opening December 5. Goose season will open November 24 as well, closing February 15, 2017.
