Kentucky Power joined forces with more than 20 gas and electric utility companies across the US and Canada to protect customers from long-running scams. These utilities have designated November 16 as “Utilities United Against Scams Day,” exposing the tricks scammers use to steal money from customers. Thieves are calling Kentucky Power customers threatening to shut off power unless an immediate payment is made, saying payments must be made for a new electric meter installed, and offering a discount on their bill if they sign-up for auto-pay. Customers can protect themselves by calling Kentucky Power at 1-800-572-1113 to verify account balance and payment due date. Kentucky Power reminds customers they will be notified by mail if their account is past due and will be disconnected.
