New Historical Marker Honors Immigrant Distiller

The Kentucky Historical Society will dedicate a new historical marker on December 3 that recognizes a German immigrant and distiller and his home in Old Louisville. Samuel Grabfelder moved from Bavaria to Louisville in 1857 as an 11-year-old, attended Louisville’s Male High School, and founded S. Grabfelder & Co. Whiskey in 1879, located on “Whiskey Row” in downtown Louisville. Grabfelder died in 1920 and is buried in Salem Fields, Brooklyn, New York. The marker dedication will be at 11am, Saturday December 3, at 1442 South Third Street, Louisville.
