Work to fix embankment failures on KY 1862 at Pine Creek and Thornton Road in Letcher County began yesterday. Long delays are to be expected in the work zone of mile points 0 to 7 for the next two weeks while the contractor drills railroad steel to reinforce the embankment. The drilling equipment used by M&D Contracting takes up more than one lane on the roadway, so long delays will occur on this route. Ken Mullins, Engineering Tech with Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 apologized for the temporary inconvenience, but appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding to repair the road before winter weather sets in.
