Allen Central Middle School Investigates Mock Crime Scene

The Floyd County Sheriff Department held a mock-crime scene for 7th grade students at Allen Central Middle School Thursday. Deputy Joshua Davis helped design and implement a hands-on, realistic investigation for Sandra Stapleton’s class, giving students a “crash course” presentation on using forensic science and descriptive, detailed writing to work the scene. Topics covered were: lifting fingerprints, analyzing hair and handwriting samples, requesting lab tests, photographing evidence, scale-sketching the crime scene, and the importance of proper documentation. All students, along with other 7th grade teachers and administrators, had a job to do and worked collaboratively to use critical-thinking, problem-solving techniques, and effective communication to experience an authentic crime-scene investigation.
