Pikeville Medical Center has cancelled their live Nativity Scene after a video of alleged animal abuse appeared online. An employee for 5 H Ranch, the provider of the animals for the nativity scene, was recorded on a cell phone video being forceful with a camel to make it lay down. The owner of the company, Maxine Hale, told PMC that the employee had been fired for their behavior. In a statement released on their Facebook page, PMC said they take the welfare of these animals very seriously and would cancel their contract with the company if abuse occurred and that they wouldn’t tolerate this kind of treatment of the animals. All showings of the Nativity Scene have now been cancelled and Pikeville Police is investigating the matter.
