On November 29 and 30, the Hazard Police Department, at the request of the United States Marshals service, participated in a sex offender compliance check program. The program took place in Perry, Knott, and Letcher counties. Verifying addresses of those on the National Offender registry was the primary focus of the operation to determine they were at their registered address as required by law. Approximately 112 compliance checks were conducted in the three county area. As a result, two offenders were arrested, two offenders were identified as being deceased, and three more offenders were already incarcerated on various charges. Seven offenders are still being investigated for possible non-compliance.
