Kentucky Electors Cast Ballots for President and Vice President of the United States

Kentuckians from across the state gathered at the State Capitol December 19 to observe Kentucky’s eight Presidential Electors cast their ballots for President and Vice President of the United States. Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes said the meeting of the electors “is a special opportunity to see our democracy in action.” Pursuant to the U.S. Constitution, the President and Vice President are elected by the Electoral College, comprised of electors from each state. All eight of Kentucky’s electors voted for Donald Trump and Mike Pence. Kentucky is one of 21 states in which electors are not required to vote for the candidate who won the popular vote.
