The Rowan County Sheriff’s Department has launched a new program to check on senior citizens. The program, called C.O.A.S.T., will assign senior citizens to deputies, EMS personnel, police officers, civic and church groups, and other volunteers to be called and checked on. If a volunteer is unable to make contact with the senior citizen they are assigned, they will then contact law enforcement personnel who will make a personal visit. The program is an effort to help those living alone who do not have regular contact with family members or friends.
