Governor Bevin Signs Executive Order Establishing Work Ready Scholarship

Governor Matt Bevin has signed an executive order establishing the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program. Beginning with the 2017-18 academic year, the new program allocates up to $15.9 million in financial aid for eligible Kentuckians who have not yet earned at least an associate’s degree. Participants can earn an industry-recognized certificate, credential, or diploma in one of Kentucky’s top five high-demand workforce sectors – health care, advanced manufacturing, transportation/logistics, business services/information technology, and construction/trades. Eligible individuals can access WRKS funding until they reach one of the following benchmarks – attain an associate’s degree, receipt of the scholarship for four semesters, or utilization of the scholarship for 32 credit hours. Recipients must maintain a 2.0 GPA for each academic term they receive WRKS assistance.
