Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post is investigating two separate fatal collisions that occurred in Magoffin County over the holiday weekend. The first incident occurred during the evening hours of Saturday, December 31, 2016. The preliminary investigation indicated that Sara Berry was traveling westbound on the Mountain Parkway in the Salyersville community of Magoffin County. Berry Lost control of her 2008 Nissan Sentra, crossing into the oncoming lane and colliding with a 2013 Chevrolet pickup. Berry, 33, of Harrodsburg, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the morning hours of January 2, 2017, KSP Post 9 responded to another collision on the Mountain Parkway. The preliminary investigation indicated Thomas Clawson was traveling westbound before losing control, crossing into the oncoming lane, and striking a vehicle traveling eastbound. Clawson, 57, of Lebanon, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene by Magoffin County Coroner Mark Jenkins. Evidence at both scenes indicate the victims were wearing seatbelts and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
