Kentucky Law Enforcement Agencies Adopt Sexual Assault Response Policies

On February 8, Kentucky Justice Secretary John Tilley announced that every law enforcement agency certified though the Kentucky Law Enforcement Foundation Program Fund has met new requirements on sexual assault policies. This is a key turning point in addressing the backlog of rape evidence kits, as each agency was mandated to adopt a sexually assault response policy by January 1, in accordance with the SAFE Act. Secretary Tilly said survivors of sexual assault should never have to endure the uncertainty of another backlog. He added he is proud of the agencies and the Department of Criminal Justice Training for setting a new high standard for handling evidence and helping survivors find justice.
