The first reading of two Kentucky Senate Bills was reported favorable on Thursday, during the regular session. Senate Bill 138 would establish regulations for an elective social studies course on Hebrew Scriptures and other texts of the Bible to provide students knowledge of biblical content as it relates to our culture. SB138 would amend KRS 158.197 to permit schools to offer the elective. Senate Bill 159 was also read, which would require all public high school students to pass a civics test to receive a diploma. The test would take questions from the test administered to those seeking U.S. citizenship.
