Tourism, Arts, and Heritage Secretary Don Parkinson and Parks Commissioner Donnie Holland sign a lease March 9 with Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton for a portion of Jenny Wiley State Resort Park. The city of Prestonsburg will utilize the leased land to reopen a swimming pool and offer other recreational attractions. The lease covers a small portion of the park where the park’s community pool and a skylift were located. Both have been closed for several years. In addition to reopening the pool, the city plans to build a zipline and an aquatic playground on Dewey Lake. The new amenities will be available to state park guests.
Holland said the lease will be a boost to marketing efforts for Jenny Wiley State Resort Park. The new attractions are scheduled to open in 2018. Under the terms of the lease, the state parks will receive a percentage of fees paid by visitors. Mayor Stapleton said they are thrilled to have the opportunity to reopen the swimming pool and develop additional attractions to bring guests to the area.
