Letcher County Bridge Closed to One Lane of Traffic

One lane of the first bridge in Craft’s Colley (KY 2034) was shut down Wednesday, March 22, by bridge inspectors from KY Highway District 12. One narrow lane, less than 9 feet, is open for local traffic use, according to Shane Allen, Bridge Engineer at District 12. The bridge was inspected in May 2016 and there was some concern about deterioration of the steel beams that support one side of the bridge. After the follow up investigation, the steel beam supported side of the bridge has been closed. The number of cars on the bridge at one time has now been limited and drivers are asked to take turns while crossing the bridge. State bridge engineers will evaluate whether the bridge can be repaired or needs to be replaced.
