Five Floyd County Head Start classrooms have received district and regional recognition for being exceptional classrooms. Classrooms at May Valley, Betsy Layne, Allen and McDowell have been recognized as being top in the district and region. Of the sixty-four classrooms in the five county region, these teams of teachers, teacher assistants, family service workers, and education consultants rank in the top fifteen. The #1 team in the region was the classroom of Ashley Fite, Stacy Paige, Jennifer Woods, Kim Grubb, Shonna Hall, Teresa Newsome, and Deanna Watts from May Valley Elementary. Betsy Layne Elementary placed in the #2 spot, with two Allen Elementary classrooms tying for 7th, and McDowell Elementary ranker #14.
