At the March 28 regular meeting of the Floyd County Board of Education, the Board approved changes to Policy 8.22 Promotion-Retention to include an early enrollment option for Kindergarten students. Starting with the 2017-2018 school year, all Kentucky students enrolling in Kindergarten would have to be five years old on or before August 1, 2017. The previous cut-off date was October 1. There is an evaluation process that must be part of the policy and Floyd County Schools will use the Kindergarten registration screener to determine a child’s readiness for school. If your child is ready to enroll in Kindergarten and will be 5-years-old on or before October 1, 2017, there will be registration at Floyd County elementary schools on April 3 and 4 from 8:30am to 2pm.
