The Kentucky Music Educators Association District 9 Vocal Solo & Ensemble event was held on March 23 at Belfry High School. The competition included students from Floyd, Martin, and Pike counties, along with Pikeville and Hazard Independent schools.

The John M. Stumbo Elementary Choir and Prestonsburg High School Honor Choir received Proficient ratings. Katherine Bailey, PHS junior, and Debra Wike, PHS senior, earned proficient solo ratings. Ally Davis and Kalib Jackson, both senior at PHS, earned distinguished solo ratings, with Davis qualifying for state competition.
