On Sunday, April 16, 2017, Jackson Police Lieutenant Shawn Howard died in an ATV accident in the early morning hours. He was driving the Quicksand Creek community in Breathitt County when he struck a tree. At the time of the accident, Lieutenant Howard was riding with a female passenger, who was flown to UK Hospital for treatment. Her condition is currently unknown.
