A single vehicle car crash the morning of Sunday, April 16 resulted in the death of a Whitesburg man. Kentucky State Police Post 13 received a call around 10:45am advising that a vehicle had apparently caused some property damage to a residential yard on US 119 in the Payne Gap community of Letcher County. There were no witnesses at the scene to provide a vehicle description. Trooper Branden Watts observed a vehicle in a creek as he arrived at the scene. Further investigation resulted in the discovery of an individual trapped underneath the vehicle. The man, Larry C. Stidham, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates he was ejected from the vehicle after colliding with a guardrail, fence, and utility pole before overturning. Stidham was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of collision and a toxicology report is pending.
