Alzheimer’s Association Annual Report on Disease Shows Growing Impact

The Alzheimer’s Association is out with its annual report on the disease and it shows the impact on the nation’s health care costs, economy, and families continues to grow. Care costs for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia have topped a quarter of a trillion dollars and will grow to $1.1 trillion by 2050. 80,000 Kentuckians have this untreatable disease, impacting 250,000 unpaid caregivers and their families. DeeAnna Esslinger of the Alzheimer’s Association Kentucky-Southern Indiana Chapter says, while Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the US current government research funding is inadequate.
