On Monday, Floyd County Schools had a ribbon cutting ceremony for the unveiling of 15 new buses to add to their current fleet. Transportation Director Joe Marson opened the ceremony, telling those in attendance the buses will be safer and more efficient for students. . The bigger buses will allow transportation between 66 and 84 passengers, with smaller buses transporting 34 students that will be easier to maneuver in hollows. Each bus will have air conditioning and improved back up lights and cameras. Bus Driver Training Coordinator Dawyne Dawson spoke of the extensive travel buses do on a daily basis, with 65 routes traveling over 5,000 miles. The buses are expected to roll out at the end of the semester and summer for trips and special events before being added to regular routes in the 2017-2018 school year.
