The Rally for Equality and American Values, which was to take place Saturday, April 29 in Pikeville, has been postponed. The rally was to be a counter event to a gathering held at the Pikeville Courthouse by the Traditionalist Worker Party, which advertised their event as “Take a stand for white working families.” One of the organizers of the event, Ariana Velasquez, posted on the event page of The Rally for Equality, that after consulting with law enforcement, state and local officials, and University of Pikeville administration, it was decided to reschedule the rally for a later date. She cited “real and unforeseen credible threats to the safety of our attendees and our community” were the deciding factor. She said in her statement the “goal of a safe, family friendly celebration of equality and American values is no longer possible at this time.”
