Floyd County at the ARI Fire Summit

Floyd County students, teachers, and leaders were part of the April 13 Appalachian Renaissance Institute’s Fire Summit at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville. Students Mackynzie Samons from South Floyd and Zoie Morrison from Allen Central High presented the Student Senate Plan. The purpose of the Student Senate Plan was to lead culture building activities between the two schools’ students as they will merge into Floyd Central High School in the fall of 2017. Teachers and leaders also applied for and received ARI Innovation grants in the fall and presented their findings at the Fire Summit. Superintendent Dr. Henry Webb said he was pleased teachers are stepping up and taking innovative approaches to learning to meet student needs.
