Special Election for Johnson County School District Nickel Tax

A special election is being held in the Johnson County School District on the future of the Nickel tax. The tax is $0.05 on every $100 of personal property to raise funds dedicated to new construction, major renovation of current schools facilities, and debt service. For every $1.00 raised from the tax, it is matched by $1.83 from the state, qualifying the district to receive over $800,000 per year. As the tax was part of the existing 2015 and 2016 tax cycle, voting in favor of the Nickel tax will not increase anyone’s current tax burden. Johnson County School Board Chairman Bob Hutchison encouraged everyone in the district to vote for the best interests of the students.  Polls are open until 6pm.
