The Ashland Police Department is reporting a citizen received a call from an unknown person from a 502 area code representing himself as working with the police. The caller spoke of the drug epidemic and talked of layoffs due to budget issues. After the caller asked for donations and requesting debit/credit card, social security number and address information, the citizen asked if they could make a cash donation. The call was then transferred to a female operator who requested bank routing information, and the citizen reported the information to the police. Residents are reminded to never give out any personal or financial information over the phone and report any scams.
