On Sunday, June 4, around 6:30pm, Kentucky State Police Post 8 Morehead received information about a single vehicle collision at the 14 mile marker of the Mountain Parkway in Powell County. Further investigation determined that Melissa Haddix, 18, of Winchester, was traveling westbound on the Mountain Parkway when she lost control of her vehicle and overcorrected before it came to a final rest on its top in the eastbound lane. Powell County Coroner Hondo Hearne pronounced Ms. Haddix and a passenger, Rayna Cross, 20, dead at the scene. Another passenger, Mary Ripy, 22, was airlifted to UK Hospital and listed in stable condition. Two other passengers, Hakeen Floyd, 23, and Steven Fraley, 18, were treated at Clark Regional Medical Center and released.
