Work begins Wednesday, June 7, to fix an embankment failure on US 460 between the Millard Curve and Adkins Wrecker Service in Pike County. The site is near mile point 7. Traffic will be reduced to one lane for the next two to three weeks while work is under way. Temporary traffic signals will operate 24 hours a day to direct motorists through the work zone. Joe Stanley, Engineering Technologist Supervisor at Highway District 12, said conventional repairs do not work on the site, as there is no rock under the pavement to serve as an anchor. Geotechnical International Services, who did the rockfall mitigation project, have been contracted for the repair and will drill down as far as necessary to find rock. Drivers are asked to use caution in the work zone.
