Johnson County Schools has made the decision to dismiss school early on August 21, 2017 during the upcoming solar eclipse. Elementary will dismiss at 11am and middle and high schools will dismiss at 11:30am. After school daycare programs will be cancelled for the day. Extra-curricular activities at 4:30am or after will continue as scheduled. Johnson County Schools felt this was the best action for the safety of the students who would be on buses at the time of the eclipse without proper eye protection to prevent possible blindness or severe eye damage.
