Knox County Sheriff Addresses Girl Scouts on Internet Safety

On Monday, August 21, Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith addressed the Barbourville Chapter of Girl Scouts and their leader, Lisa Williamson, at the First Christian Church. Sheriff Smith’s presentation focused on internet safety, including warning the scouts not to give personal information, such as name, age, address, or telephone number, while chatting with someone they don’t know. They were also urged to tell their parents or a trusted adult if someone wants to meet them in person. Other topics addressed were cyberbullying, opening suspicious emails, pop-up windows or advertisements and how to help prevent viruses from infecting their computer.
