On August 26, around 2:40pm, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an altercation between a male and female subject at a store off KY 490. The female was reportedly bleeding from the head. Upon arrival, Detective Kyle Gray learned the male, identified as Elmo Dwayne Scruggs, 52 of Hyden, fled into the woods. Scruggs was located a short time later and struggled with deputies. Scruggs was arrested and charged with assault, fleeing police, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
