On September 11, 2017, Big Sandy Community and Technical College honored and remembered our fellow Americans with their annual Patriot Day/Constitution Day ceremonies held on the Prestonsburg, Pikeville, and Mayo campuses. Patriot Day is a day of remembrance of the September 11, 2001 attacks of the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Va, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, that killed 2, 977 people. Representatives and officials from across the regions attended, and the Big Sandy Singers and Band performed at each location. Dr. Tony Newberry, Interim President of BSCTC, said we remember those that perished that day and pay tribute to the first responders who put their lives on the line for us each day. He added they incorporate celebrating Constitution Day to remember the freedoms we have.
