On Sunday, September 24, around 4:56am, Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a complaint of a passed out individual in front of a business off West Cumberland Gap Parkway. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies located the subject, identified as 37-year-old Jerry Smith of Berea. Smith had allegedly smoked meth earlier and was determined to be under the influence. He was charged with public intoxication and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
