Beshear Files Suit Against Pharmaceutical Company Relating to Opioid Deaths

On Monday, November 6, 2017, Attorney General Andy Beshear filed a suit against Endo Pharmaceuticals and Endo Health Solutions for violating state law and directly contributing to drug overdose deaths of 190 Kentuckians allegedly caused by Opana ER, a prescription opioid three times stronger than morphine, as well as other opioid related deaths and overdoses in the state. In the Attorney General’s complaint, Endo is accused of targeting Kentucky veterans in its promotion of Opana ER. Beshear also alleged the company’s blind eye to drug abuse lead to a surge of HIV cases in Scott County, Indiana in 2015 and put more than 50 Kentucky counties at risk for a similar outbreak.
