Knott County Man Shot Following Two County Pursuit

A two county vehicle pursuit resulted in the shooting of a Knott County man by police the afternoon of Monday, November 6, 2017. A trooper with Kentucky State Police Post 13 observed a vehicle driving in a reckless manner on Highway 15 in the Isom community of Letcher County, and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver of the truck failed to yield when the Trooper activated his emergency equipment, and continued to travel north on Ky 15 into Knott County. The truck turned onto Highway 160 at Litt Carr, and proceeded to travel north before turning onto KY 899. Personnel with KSP Vehicle Enforcement, Knott County Sheriff’s Department and Pippa Passes Police Department joined in the pursuit. The truck traveled into the Raven community, where it turned onto an old mining haul road, traveling a minimal distance before stopping. The driver’s actions prompted officers to fire their weapons, striking the driver. He was treated at the scene with first aid and transported to Hazard ARH with non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured.
