Two Vehicle Collision in Leslie County Results in Fatalities

A two vehicle crash on Hal Rogers Parkway in Leslie County claimed the lives of two people the morning of Sunday, December 24, 2017. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call from Leslie County Emergency Operations Center at around 11:17am, advising of the collision near the Thousandsticks community. The preliminary investigation determined that Paul Howard, 45 of Hyden, was traveling west on Hal Rogers Parkway in a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. The vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a 2014 Honda SUV driven by 71-year-old Joan Sparks of Nancy, KY. Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Leslie County Coroner’s Office. There were no other occupants in either vehicle. No autopsies will be performed and toxicology results from both individuals are pending.
