Kentucky State Police Post 13 is investigating a structure fire that claimed the life of a Letcher County woman on December 16, 2017. Post 13 received a call advising of a fire on Highway 317 in the Neon community, with possible occupants inside. When emergency personnel arrived, they were advised that Joyce Darlene Hill, age 56 of Thornton, may be inside the residence. The State Fire Marshall’s Office was notified, as well as Kentucky State Police Detective Brandon Thomas and Arson Investigator Nick Indicott. All responded to the scene to investigate. The remains of Joyce Hill were discovered on the premises after the fire was extinguished. No foul play is suspected at this time and the body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
