Man Arrested for DUI in Laurel County After Complaint of Sleeping Driver

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office made a DUI arrest on I-75 on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. The arrest occurred around 9:38am after deputies were dispatched to a complaint of a driver falling asleep while operating a blue Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound. The vehicle was located and observed weaving on the roadway. A traffic stop was conducted and deputies detected the odor of alcoholic beverages inside the cab. An investigation determined the driver, 47-year-old Hobert Ben Smith, was under the influence. He was charged with DUI, reckless driving, possession of open alcoholic beverage and insurance and registration violations.
