A fatal single vehicle crash occurred the morning of Friday, January 19, 2018 in Knott County. Emergency personnel were called to the reported collision just before 7am on KY 160 near the junction of Highway 899 in the Mallie community. The initial investigation of the crash determined that Kelly Pigman, age 48 of Litt Carr, was traveling north on KY 160 when he lost control of his 2006 Ford pickup. The truck crossed the center line and southbound lane, before going off the left shoulder, where it collided with a concrete bridge and came to rest. Pigman was pronounced dead at the scene by Knott County Coroner Jeff Blair. There were no other occupants in the truck. Mr. Pigman was not wearing a seat belt and the time of the crash and no autopsy will be performed. Contributing factors have yet to be determined, though impairment is not being considered at this time.
