Beshear Files Lawsuit Against Pharmaceutical Distributor

Attorney General Andy Beshear filed a suit against a national opioid distributor for allegedly violating state law and directly contributing to the state’s drug epidemic by flooding Kentucky with massive amounts of opioids, including generic oxycodone and hydrocodone. Beshear is suing San Francisco-based McKeeson Corporation over unfair, misleading and deceptive business practices. The lawsuit alleges the company excessively distributed opioids, particularly in rural counties in Eastern Kentucky. From January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2016, McKesson distributed over 18 million doses of prescription opioids in Floyd County alone. Floyd County Judge-Executive Ben Hale said the opioid addiction problem is in part a direct result of the massive supply of these drugs being funneled into our communities. He added that their corporate profits ranking as a higher priority than human life is the most unforgiveable motive.
