100 Flu-Related Deaths Reported in Kentucky

The Department for Public Health is reporting 100 flu-related deaths from the flu epidemic in Kentucky. At least four of those deaths have been pediatric cases. Dr. Jeffrey Howard, Acting DPH Commissioner, reminds people to avoid contact with others if you have influenza or an influenza-like illness. Citizens are reminded to take appropriate measures to protect themselves, such as washing hands with soap and water, and seek care early if you are sick. Kentuckians six months and older are recommended to get the flu vaccination, which takes about two weeks following administration for the recipient to develop protection.
